What is the Richmond Co-Ed Golf Happy Hour?

The purpose of Richmond's Co-Ed Golf Happy Hour is to bring together golfers of all abilities in a fun, social environment.  The after-work choice between a crowded, smoky bar or the fresh country air of a golf course is an easy one.  Meet new friends, network with professional contacts, connect with nature, and enrich your social life while playing (or learning) the greatest game in the world on the best golf course in Richmond.  This league is perfect for friends, co-workers, couples and "swinging singles" alike!

Each Happy Hour begins with a free golf lesson leading to a Six-hole Captain's Choice tournament starting at 6 PM (6 at 6).  Each 4 person team will be randomly assigned and balanced out by golf ability.

Our league is great for seasoned and beginner golfers alike!

Beginner Golfers
Every session begins with a 30 minute golf clinic and question/answer session where you can improve your swing and learn the rules of golf. In the no-pressure, captain’s choice format, beginners can contribute on each hole at any time without worrying about the inevitable “bad shot.” Our league is about having fun which is actually the fastest way to improve your game.  For brand new golfers, we offer the option of bypassing the tournament for more practice on the golf range.  You can meetup later at the social.

Seasoned Golfers
Be the hero of your team with your clutch, Tigeresque shot making. Work on your individual game in a stress-free, social environment.  As the great Sam Snead used to say, “Forget your opponents (or teammates); always play against par.”  We’re all equal players on the 19th hole. :)

Women Golfers
Women rule in Captain's Choice!  With the strategic red pin placement, all of a sudden you become one of the best drivers on your team allowing for easier second shots.  Your teammates will love you!

Captain's Choice Format
Also, called "scramble" or "best ball."
In Captain's Choice, each player on a team hits off the tee, and the best drive is selected for the second shot.  All four players play from the spot of the "best ball."  For the second shot, players may place their ball within one club length of the spot no closer to the hole.  This process is repeated for the third shot all the way to the final putt.  With this format, you are essentially getting four different chances at hitting the ball and "eliminating" errant shots.  Scores tend to be a lot lower, and therefore, golfers tend to get delusions of grandeur. :)

Shotgun Start
A Shotgun Start is a tournament format in which all groups of players tee off at the same time from different holes. Group 1 starts from hole 1, Group 2 from hole 2, etc. Each group starts play simultaneously. A shotgun start will allow the Happy Hour tournament to end at the same time it takes one foursome to finish 6 holes of golf.
